Police Meet With Residents Over Coffee In Manayunk

By Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police serving the 5th District, met with area residents over coffee Friday morning at Winnie's LeBus in Manayunk. The Coffee with a Cop program is designed to help bridge the gap between civilians and law enforcement.

John Teague is a long-time resident of Manayunk and welcomed the opportunity to get to know the officers who work in his area.

"There's been some ongoing issues down here in Manayunk, particularly along the Main Street corridor that still needs to be addressed, so knowing we have a proactive captain, is going to be pretty helpful."

Captain John Moroney was assigned to the 5th District in October and sees these casual meetings as a win for both law enforcement and civilians.

"They can come up, they can talk to me personally, talk to one of my officers. I got the community relations officer here, victims assistance officer, my tactical sergeant, different people. Anything that we can help them with, the resources are here to help them."

Police plan to have Coffee with a Cop events three times a year.
