Residents Brace For More Snow Across Philadelphia Region

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With another winter blast expected to move through the Philadelphia region, hardware stores were busy Sunday with residents stocking up on rock salt and all the other items needed to get through the snow.

A steady flow of customers stopped by Fairmount Hardware at 20th and Fairmount Streets to grab all the necessary items to get though the storm.

Manager David Adams said shovels and ice scrapers were selling quickly. They also carry sleds and a parking lot full of salt.

"(We have) 50 skids of salt and calcium," he said, "getting ready for the prediction of what's coming."

Jake Porter bought an ice scraper for his car and a big bag of salt....just in case.

"I'm expecting not to have a storm, because I don't trust meteorologists at all," he said. "But, if there is a storm, I don't want to not have salt and this is the one store that is always stocked up."

Kim from Fairmount made sure she was all stocked up.

"We picked up rock salt specifically safe for dogs, because we have a puppy and we have a lot of neighbors that do, too," she said. "I think it's a little bit safer. I've never used it before, so we're going to give it a try."

Kim said she was unprepared for the first big storm, last year, and she wasn't going to get caught off guard again.
