Sixers To Stand By Embiid In Light Of Brother's Passing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --UPDATE: October 17th, 2014: Sixers President and General Manager Sam Hinkie gave the following statement on behalf of the organization:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Joel and the Embiid family.

"To learn that you have lost a sibling or a child is unfathomable. We are poorly designed for that kind of loss. To receive that news while 6,000 miles away from your family is more than any of us are equipped to handle alone. Joel is not alone.

"Joel's sister was able to travel to Philadelphia last night and the two of them are currently on their way to Cameroon."

According to the Sixers, Joel Embiid will not be in attendance for the team's preseason game tonight against the Celtics in light of the passing of his younger brother Arthur. No further details have been given.

Embiid will not be alone during this tough time as Sixers head coach Brett Brown, General Manager Sam Hinkie and his teammate and mentor Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, will all be by his side and will miss the game as well.

Sixers assistant coach Chad Iske will step up and coach the team in Brown's absence.
