Report Of Smoke On Plane Prompts Minor Scare At Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fire crews were called to Philadelphia International Airport Saturday morning for reports of smoke on an airplane.

Spokeswoman Victoria Lupica says a Delta Airlines flight was taxing the runway around 7:30 a.m. when smoke was reported in the cockpit.

Fire crews responded, but the smoke had dissipated before they arrived.

Lupica says the plane returned to the gate where the 149 passengers who were on board were evaluated by medics as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.

Delta Airlines later issued a statement explaining the incident and apologizing to the passengers for the inconvenience.

The flight was scheduled to take off shortly after 7 a.m. to Raleigh Durham, North Carolina. The passengers were expected to be accommodated on the next available flight.
