Reports: Eagles To Interview Tom Coughlin For Head Coaching Job
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Eagles are apparently ready to interview a longtime rival for their head coaching vacancy.
Multiple reports say the Eagles have requested permission from the New York Giants to interview Tom Coughlin. The interview would reportedly take place on Monday.
Coughlin resigned as head coach of the Giants last Monday, one day after losing to the Eagles in the regular season finale. Even after resigning, the 69-year-old Coughlin indicated he may not be done with coaching.
The Eagles still need permission from the Giants to interview Coughlin because one year remained on his contract.
Coughlin would bring an impressive resume to any team. He has won 170 regular season games, and went 12-7 in the post-season with two Super Bowl victories. Both Super Bowl wins came against the New England Patriots.
Coughlin also coached in Jacksonville, where he led the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars to the AFC Championship game in just his second season.
The Eagles are also expected to meet with Cincinnati Assistant Paul Guenther and Chiefs Assistant Doug Pederson. Both coaches have playoff games on Saturday.
The search for a new head coach began last week after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie fired Chip Kelly, who spent nearly three seasons with the team.
