Former Phillies Pitcher Curt Schilling Announces He Has Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Curt Schilling announced Wednesday he has been diagnosed with cancer.

CBS Sports reports Schilling, 47, released a statement through ESPN, the network for which he serves as an MLB analyst.

Schilling pitched with the Phillies from 1992 to 2000.

The Phillies ace is the fifth member of the 1993 National League Championship team to be diagnosed with cancer.

Darren Daulton, John Kruk, Todd Pratt, and former coach John Vukovich have all battled the disease.

The statement didn't say what type of cancer Schilling has, but he has asked for prayers for him and his family.
