Report: Titans Never Received Strong Enough Offer For No. 2

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Did Chip Kelly make a serious offer to the Titans for pick No. 2?

Despite conflicting reports, Albert Breer of the NFL Network says no---the offer was never strong enough.

Furthermore, SI.com's Peter King agrees with Breer.

King wrote, "The Eagles, as Kelly said Thursday night in Philadelphia, never offered players as part of a package to obtain Mariota. In fact, The MMQB learned Thursday night that Kelly never offered the widely rumored packages of either three first-round picks or two first-round picks and Sam Bradford, in an attempt to obtain the second pick of the draft. I can tell you this much is true: The Titans basically scared off suitors because they continually told teams they wanted to take Mariota, and it would take a stupid offer to obtain the pick."

The speculation on Thursday leading up to round one of the NFL Draft, was that the Eagles' head coach was going to try his best to move from No. 20 to No. 2 in order to acquire his former quarterback at Oregon, Marcus Mariota.

Before the first-round began, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Eagles offered a huge package for the Titans' top pick.

Ultimately, Mariota was selected second by the Titans at No. 2. Kelly and the Eagles stayed put at No. 20, selecting wide receiver from USC Nelson Agholor.

"We had a conversation with both teams at the front, but it was way too steep to do anything," Kelly said about trading up, after selecting Agholor. "It didn't get very serious, to be honest with you."
