Sixers Name Mike D'Antoni As Associate Head Coach

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia 76ers Friday announced the team has agreed to terms with Mike D'Antoni to become Associate Head Coach.

D'Antoni, 64, has been out of the NBA since stepping down from his head coaching position with the Los Angeles Lakers after the 2013-14 season. Previously, D'Antoni was the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, and New York Knicks. His most success came with the Suns (2003-2008), where D'Antoni went 253-136 which included two 60-win seasons and consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances.

D'Antoni became known his fast-paced, three-point reliant offensive system.

The hire comes six days after the Sixers gave head coach Brett Brown a two-year extension and less than two weeks after naming Jerry Colangelo as the team's chairman of operations.
