Report: Washington To Release Robert Griffin III

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The NFL's free-agent quarterback list just got a lot more exciting.

While it seemed imminent, multiple reports indicate that Washington has told Robert Griffin III will be released. Washington will save about $16 million with the move, money they would lose with Griffin on the roster when the 2016 officially begins (March 9th at 4:00 p.m. E.T.).

The Eagles, who recently re-signed Sam Bradford to a two-year contract, have been linked to Griffin as a potential suitor. According to a recent report, 10-15 teams may be interested in the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Griffin, 26, threw for 3,200 yards in each of his first two NFL seasons while rushing for another 1,304 and reaching the 2012 Pro Bowl.
