Report: Pa. Town Named Second Safest In America

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Do you feel safe in your hometown? According to a list by SafeWise.com, eight Pennsylvania and New Jersey cities are the top 25 safest towns in America.

The list finds that Hibbing, Minnesota is the safest city in America with .25 violent crimes per 1,000 people.

Upper Providence Township, just outside of Philadelphia, is ranked the second safest town in the country. SafeWise calls it a "prosperous and engaged community."

South Park Township, Pennsylvania is listed as the fifth safest and Chatham Township, New Jersey lands at number 14.

The site says it ranked the cities by "carefully calculating its safety rankings by analyzing and weighting the total number of crimes of a given city in relation to its population and other significant factors. All American municipalities with more than 10,000 residents were considered. SafeWise then identifies relevant safety, health, and educational information and programs that help make each "Safest City" more secure."
