PA Attorney General: No Evidence Of Conspiracy In Emails
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) — The findings of a long-awaited review of inappropriate emails captured on servers in Pennsylvania's Office of Attorney General have been released.
The attorney general concludes there's no evidence of conspiracy in the criminal justice system.
Attorney General Bruce Beemer says the emails show no evidence of "ex-parte" communications with a judge and one party to a case. But the report found thousands of emails to be inappropriate.
Thirteen offenders were identified as judges or senior government officials, and 38 people were identified as "high volume" senders.
Two state Supreme Court justices have already stepped down; Beemer says the names of other offenders will be forwarded to employers. But in what he calls an "extraordinarily difficult decision," Beemer says the names will not be made public.
"Because to do so, under the circumstances under which I found the report, I felt would be imprudent."
He is highly critical of the methodology of the report, prepared by private law firm, saying it was overly broad in its scope, flagging as offensive many emails that were not.
