Report: More Than 4 Million Admit To Driving Drunk

ATLANTA, GA (CBS) -- According to the CDC, during 2012, more than 4 million people admitted to driving drunk in the preceding 30 days.

Researchers say they analyzed self-reported data from the 2012 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey to estimate the prevalence, number of episodes, and annual rate of alcohol-impaired driving.

The CDC says alcohol-impaired driving accidents account for about one-third of all crash fatalities in the United States.

Additionally, the report says 85 percent of alcohol-impaired driving incidents were reported by individuals who also reported binge drinking.

Four percent of the adult population, who admitted to binge drinking at least four times a month, accounted for more than 60 percent of alcohol-impaired driving episodes.
