Report: Giants Blocked Eagles From Coughlin By Hiring McAdoo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles' head coaching job was apparently Tom Coughlin's, if he wanted it.

But, he didn't, withdrawing his name just hours after reports indicated he was having an in-depth face-to-face meeting in Philly.

Why? Because Coughlin wanted to bring Giants' offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, among many others, with him according to Gary Myers of the NY Daily News. And when the Giants hired McAdoo to replace Coughlin as head coach, the 69-year-old coach bailed on the Eagles just hours later.

ESPN's Dan Graziano tweeted that Coughlin had trepidation over who his offensive coordinator would be.

Myers reports the Giants were "not thrilled at the prospect of Coughlin coaching down the Turnpike" and McAdoo's hiring denied that possibility.

Or maybe, Jeffrey Lurie out-smarted the Giants by faking interest in Coughlin, to sneakily force the Giants into hiring McAdoo! Or maybe not.
