Report: Less Than 40% Of Web Traffic Generated By Humans

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – According to a new report, less than 40% of website traffic actually comes from humans.

The 2014 report from Incapsula, a cloud-based application delivery platform, shows that just 38.5% of traffic on the web comes from humans.

That's down from 2012, when 49% of traffic could be attributed to real, living people.

Meanwhile, 31% of website traffic is generated by "good bots," such as search engines. But a large proportion is also generated by malicious entities, such as hackers, spammers and "other impersonators – 30.5%.

"Bots" are described as computer programs developed to make predictions based on keywords entered on the internet.

Incapsula says it observed 1.45 billion web visits over a 90 day period to generate its results.
