Report: Eagles Talking DeSean Jackson Trade, Want At Least 3rd Round Pick
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If the saying goes, "where there's smoke, there's fire," it would seem to be a pretty sure bet there's a fire somewhere close that resembles a trade of Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
For weeks now, rumors have circulated that the Eagles would be willing to trade Jackson, and those rumors became stronger and more specific on Tuesday.
Comcast Sportsnet's Derrick Gunn reports that the Eagles have discussed trading Jackson with both the Patriots and 49ers, and want at least a third round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft in return. Gunn also reports that while the team did not say they were actively shopping Jackson, they did inform the receiver that they are listening to offers.
Jackson signed a new contract prior to the 2012 season that will pay him $10.5 million in 2014, with a salary cap hit of over $12 million.
Jackson is being paid big money, but has produced, having a career season in 2013, with 82 catches for 1332 yards and nine touchdowns.
Many have looked at the 2013 Seahawks trade for Percy Harvin as reason for getting more than just a third round pick for Jackson, though Harvin's much smaller, $2.5 million salary makes a big difference. The Bears' 2012 trade for Brandon Marshall may be a better comparison, in which Chicago sent two third round picks to Miami for Marshall.
