The deadline for NFL teams to sign franchised players to long-term contracts is 4:00 p.m. E.T. on Wednesday. If a long-term deal was not reached, Bryant would have been forced to play the 2015 season under the franchise tag, earning $12.8 million.
On Monday, Bryant tweeted:
As much as I love football...on my beautiful babies.. I apologize #cowboynation but I will not be there if no deal #fact
