Report: Chip Kelly Ordered To Pay $79,000 In Lease Dispute

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- According to a report from The Legal IntelligencerEagles head coach Chip Kelly is now on the hook for $79,374 owed to a former landlord following a lease dispute.

The dispute stems from an Old City property that Kelly began renting from Tempa Berish in April of 2013.  Kelly was due to pay Berish $10,700 per month for a one-year lease.

According to Philadelphia court documents, Kelly did not properly notify Berish that he would not be renewing the lease after 12 months. The lease then automatically renewed and the rent was increased to $11,235.

Berish's claim against Kelly sought payment for the unpaid months of rent in addition to late fees.

The court ruled on the dispute in early June deciding that Kelly was responsible for the unpaid rent.

Berish charged Kelly from April 2014 until August 2014 until a new tenant was found. Kelly was charged during that period at the increased rent price which the court found Kelly responsible for.

In addition to late fees and court costs, the Eagles coach also lost a security deposit of $20,000.
