Report: 49ers Interested In Darren Sproles, Despite Chip Kelly's Denial

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In his own sneaky way, Chip Kelly denied the San Francisco 49ers' interested in Eagles running back Darren Sproles.

"I've had nobody call me from Philadelphia since December," Kelly said on Tuesday.

However, on Tuesday's 94WIP Josh Innes Show, NFL reporter Ben Allbright reported that Kelly's comment does not necessarily mean the 49ers are not interested in Sproles. In San Fran, general manager Trent Baalke is making the personnel decisions.

"Darren doesn't actually want to go anywhere either, neither does the team want to part with him, but there have been inquirers about bringing Darren to different organizations," Allbright said. "I know the San Francisco 49ers did reach out -- I know Chip Kelly said that he hasn't talked to anybody, but if you're picking up what I'm putting down, he's not the one making phone calls over there these days anyway."

A second team, according to Allbright, is also interested in the 32-year-old offensive weapon as well.

"The Miami Dolphins also reached out to see if Darren Sproles would be available, they've got a dearth of talent," Allbright said. "They're expected to sign Arian Foster directly, that'll be coming soon."

Doug Pederson, addressing the media on Tuesday, made it clear the Eagles want to keep Sproles.

"I want Darren Sproles on this football team, we want him on this football team, he's a big part of this football team and that's where we're at."
