Report: 40 Percent Of Kids In Pa.'s Public Schools Classified As Low Income
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A new report reveals the majority of America's public school students now come from low-income families.
According to research from the Southern Education Foundation that used data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), 51% of America's public school students were low income in 2013.
In fact, in 40 out of 50 states, low income students made up no less than 40% of public school children.
In Pennsylvania, 40% of kids attending public school were classified as low income. In Delaware, it was 51%, and in New Jersey, 37% of students in public schools were low income.
In Mississippi, nearly three out of every four kids (71%) attending public school were from low income families.
