Cops: Suspect Killed After Opening Fire On Officers In Trenton

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- A suspect was shot and killed by police after investigators say he opened fire on officers in Trenton Thursday morning.

The incident happened at about 7 a.m. in the unit block of Wilson Street.

According to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, police were called to the scene for the report of a man with a gun.

When officers arrived, investigators say the suspect opened fire on them while they were still in their cruiser. Some of the bullets pierced the windshield of the police car.

The officers returned fire, striking the suspect. The unidentified suspect was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Investigators say the officers were not struck by gunfire, but they were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The shooting remains under investigation.
