Recently Repaired Regional Rail Cars Sidelined Again
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — SEPTA has found a new problem with some of its recently-repaired Regional Rail cars.
SEPTA has pulled 18 of its newly-repaired regional rail cars out of service because of friction between old and new parts.
General Manager Jeff Knueppel says inspectors on Saturday discovered that pins holding the new equalizer beam assembly were occasionally creating marks on the truck frame.
"While it's not an immediate, big safety issue, it's not a desirable condition. And so we just felt in the interest of safety -- just pull them off."
Kneuppel says the cars should be repaired and back in service by the end of this week.
SEPTA sidelined 120 Regional Rail cars in July because of structural cracks.
Knueppel says this latest setback should not affect the plan to restore normal weekday rail schedules by October 10.
