Remote Screenshot Allows Police To ID Cell Phone Theft Suspect

ABSECON, N.J. (CBS)—Police in South Jersey have identified a person of interest in the theft of a cell phone and the photo courtesy goes to remote technology.

Police say a woman claimed a lost cell phone after an announcement was made over the PA system at a Shoprite in Absecon. But the catch is, the phone didn't belong to her.

Absecon police say a tracking device captured photos of the woman who's still being sought at this time.

"I'm told a proper selfie should be taken from an elevated angle down toward the photographer," said police on their Facebook page.  "The kids say it's a much more flattering point of view. This sticky fingered selfie taker gets a pass because she obviously was not aware her photo was being taken."

Anyone who recognizes this woman is asked to call police at 609-641-0667.
