By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The American Red Cross launches its' "Pet First Aid" app for iPhone and Android.

The Red Cross worked with Penn Veterinary hospital for the content of the app. Renee Cardwell Hughes, CEO of the American Red Cross for Southeastern Pennsylvania, says the app features frequently asked questions about dogs and cats.

"There is information about allergic reactions, bleeding, what if your animal is bloated, blood sugar emergencies, breathing problems, burns, what happens in a car accident? choking, collapse, CPR I can keep going."

Hughes says a profile can be created for your pet with tag identification number, photos, a list of medications, and instructions.

"If you really needed to have someone sit your pet, this is information you would want them to have on their smart phone."

You'll also be able to locate the nearest vet hospital and nearest pet-friendly hotel.

The app costs 99 cents and goes to support Red Cross efforts.
