Ready To Cut The Ribbon On Venice Island Storm Water Project And Recreation Facility

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- City officials and Manayunk leaders are ready to cut the ribbon today on a new complex on Venice Island.
It's been a long time coming - at least six years of planning and another three of construction. And Jane Lipton, Executive Director of the Manayunk Development Corporation, says she can't wait to see neighbors take advantage of the new recreational and entertainment venue at the edge of the Schuylkill.
"The huge tank that was to hold storm water runoff is finished. The LEED certified green roof pump house is finished. The spray gardens which is a children's play area, that's finished. The parking lot is gorgeous and it's finished. The performing arts center is ready to go," she said.
Still ahead, a project to alleviate chronic flooding that accompanies severe storms. For now, project organizers are just hoping to see a healthy spillover of Venice visitors to Main Street.
