Reading Police Shoot, Critically Wound Armed Person, Berks County DA Says

READING, Pa. (AP) -- Police officers in eastern Pennsylvania shot and critically wounded an armed person who refused to drop the weapon, authorities said. The Berks County district attorney's office said Reading officers were called about a person with a gun and responded to the area. The officers issued numerous commands to drop the weapon, but the individual refused and kept pointing the firearm at officers, prosecutors said.

The officers then fired, striking the individual at least once, prosecutors said. The individual was rushed to Reading Hospital and remains in critical condition, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said they are continuing to gather information as part of their investigation.
