Raging Fire Tears Through Mercer County Apartment Complex

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ. (CBS) -- Dozens of residents were forced from their homes overnight after a large, fast-moving fire ripped through an apartment complex in Mercer County, New Jersey.

The flames broke out around 2:00 a.m. Monday at the Windsor Castle Apartments in the unit block of Devonshire Drive in East Windsor Township.

The fire quickly grew to three-alarms and at least three of the buildings had to be evacuated.

Officials say eight of the 16 units impacted by the fire were destroyed and 20 people were displaced. Those residents were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

A firefighter suffered a foot injury while battling the blaze and a man who was forced to jump from a second floor window to escape the flames was also hurt. There was no immediate word on his condition.

Fire officials were investigating the cause of the fire, but said it did not appear to be suspicious.
