Racial Slur Reportedly Spray-painted On Lincoln University Sign

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Lincoln University says a racial slur was discovered spray-painted on one of its signs.

The University says Public Safety officers discovered the vandalism around 1:50 a.m. on Thursday and "immediately began efforts to correct the damage."

As of noon, the word had been removed from the sign, and the Acting President of the university released a statement that reads, in part:

"I have asked Public Safety to use every effort to identify the perpetrators and to put measures in place to minimize the opportunities for such displays of ignorance and hatred."

Lincoln University was founded in 1854 and was the country's first historically black university.
