Officials Confirm Rabid Bat Found In Children's Play Area In Cherry Hill Home
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- Officials in Camden County have announced that a rabid bat was found in a home in Cherry Hill and officials are issuing warnings for people that live in the area pertaining to their own health and the health of their pets.
According to health officials in the state, Cherry Hill homeowners found the bat in the basement of their home on September 1, an area that serves as the play area for the children living in the home.
Officials say there has been no report of direct contact between the bat and the children in the home, or anyone else living there.
Cherry Hill Animal Control removed the bat for testing, which came back on September 13, confirming that the bat was rabid.
Residents in the area are being urged to make sure that their pets are up to date on their vaccinations and to supervise them to prevent them from being bit by a wild animal. Officials also warn that you should contact local animal control agencies to remove any stray animals as they may have been infected.
