Pump Problem Leads To Salem 1 Nuke Plant Shutdown
LOWER ALLOWAYS CREEK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Workers have manually shut down the Salem 1 nuclear power plant in southern New Jersey after they saw lower steam generator water levels.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says Wednesday night's action followed a problem with a steam generator feedwater pump. The steam generators are used to produce electricity.
The NRC says plant operators followed procedures and the agency's inspector at the site determined plant conditions were stable.
The NRC says no one was injured.
The Salem Generating Station in Lower Alloways Creek Township also houses the Salem 2 and Hope Creek nuclear power plants.
