Public Forum In Montgomery County Brings Open Dialogue On Gun Policy

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- An upcoming forum in Montgomery County will bring together two national experts from opposite sides of the gun issues, for civil discourse – with emphasis on the "civil."

The event is called "Let's Talk About Guns."

"Openly disagree, but not cut each other down, not debate," says Dina Baker, chairwoman of the Bernard Wolfman Civil Discourse.

The forum takes place Wednesday, April 27 at Beth Shalom Congregation in Elkins Park.

Baker says one goal of the forum is simply to hear other points of view, without saying my view is better and here is why.

This will be the fifth Civil Discourse Project. Past topics include healthcare reform, fracking and political funding.

Speakers at this year's forum include Adam Bates with the libertarian Cato Institute and Chelsea Parsons from the progressive Center for American Progress.

"They know each other because they run in the same circles," Bakers says, "but this will be really interesting, because it will be the first time they have ever spoken together."
