Prominent African American Church Honors Officer Harnett, Cops

WYNDMOOR Pa. (CBS) -- Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wyndmoor hosted the 7th annual Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony.
"This is not a reaction to all of the stuff that's going on," said Pastor Dr. Alyn Waller.
"While there are problems with our entire penal system, the police are not our enemies and we also have to take responsibility for our communities."
He says despite conflicts in other parts of the country, Philadelphia is ahead of the curve, but still has some issues.
"They are making some strides to address some things like stop & frisk, but it's not all the way done yet. There's a lot of conversation to be held, but I am optimistic and hopeful that things are going to get better."
Along with the Mayor Jim Kenney and Police Commissioner Richard Ross, Waller presented a special award of valor to Officer Jesse Harnett, who was shot in the line of duty earlier this year.
He says all men and women in uniform, who protect and serve, should be appreciated.
"While there are problems with our entire penal system, the police are not our enemies and we also have to take responsibility for our community," Waller said. "We need to take time to celebrate those who help us take care of ourselves."
