New Program Aims To Expand Technology, Internet Access In Camden

CAMDEN, N.J., (CBS) -- Local officials are making internet more accessible in Camden.

Camden Mayor Dana Redd says a new program is addressing the digital divide in Camden.

"So we're here in Camden, New Jersey at out housing authority with HUD officials, local officials and Comcast to kick off our 'ConnectHome Convening,' which is a federal designation program that is designed to expand technology and digital access to our communities of color," said Mayor Redd.

She says those that don't have access to computers and the internet miss out on opportunities.

"We were just in another room looking at job seekers and applicants and you know, now, many of those applications are being filed online."

Redd wants folks to know expanded broadband access is available at the Camden Housing Authority's Community Supportive Service Center and at local libraries throughout the city.
