Preliminary Findings Pending on Fire Death of Cooper Health CEO and Wife

SOMERVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- Investigators are still looking into the deaths of John Sheridan, CEO of Cooper University Health Care, and his wife, Joyce.  Both were found dead Sunday after firefighters responded to a blaze in their Montgomery (Somerset County), NJ home.

The Somerset County prosecutor's office isn't saying too much about the investigation into the Sheridans' deaths.  But a spokesman says they'll have more to share when the state medical examiner releases preliminary findings, expected tomorrow.

Sheridan had been with Cooper Health for nine years, and its CEO since 2008. Camden County freeholder Lou Capelli says he made quite an impact.

"A tragic loss. John gave his heart and soul to the city of Camden and to Cooper Hospital. He was a true leader, and it was just a tragedy.  We'll miss him dearly," Capelli said today.

"We can't even really measure the loss right now it's so tragic. To his family and loved ones we wish them the best," NJ State Senator Donald Norcross said Monday.

Before joining Cooper, Sheridan had spent four decades in politics, law, and health care.

CBS 3 Eyewitness News reporter Cleve Bryan contributed to this report.
