Pregnant Woman, 9-Year-Old Son Killed After Being Washed Away By Floodwaters In Berks County, Police Say

DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- A pregnant woman and her 9-year-old son were killed after being washed away by floodwaters in the Manatawny Creek in Douglass Township Thursday, according to police.

Authorities say they located a Mazda vehicle with the two bodies, but at this time, it is too dangerous for rescue crews to get to. Police say the woman was on the phone with 911 when the call was dropped.

Police were called to the area of Grist Mill and Locust Roads Thursday afternoon to investigate a report that the two had been lost in floodwaters.

A flash flood warning was in effect Thursday night as fast-moving storms dumped rain across the region.
