Prayers, Donations Pour In For Victims Of Deadly Fire In Southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There were heavy hearts at a Sunday morning service in Southwest Philadelphia. It was held in a church on the same block as the deadly house fire that claimed the lives of four young children and displaced dozens of residents (read related story).
For worshipers at Christ International Baptist Church at 65th and Gesner Streets, it was not a normal Sunday. Just feet away, there was the heartbreaking reminder of many left homeless and young lives taken away.
"Well that's the saddest part about it," said one worshiper. "Innocent kids -- that really breaks your heart. So that's why the outpouring, I guess, is so overwhelming."
During the service, many from near and far continued to bring what they could; food, clothing, toys, anything to help those whose lives will never be the same (read related story).
Pastor Napoleon Divine said as a community, their duty is to serve.
"They don't have to bear the burden alone," he said. "We will stand with them."
Standing strong and inspiring said Pastor Essie Boatwright, who visited from Family Praise and Worship Center in West Philadelphia.
"An outpouring of charity. How people are coming together," he said. "That's what it's all about."
