PPA Continues Special Holiday Perks For Drivers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When the Philadelphia Parking Authority discontinued two free meter parking perks for a couple of months in Center City and Old City it was uncertain if the traditional free holiday parking would make a return.

Good news: PPA will be offering free holiday parking throughout the city at meters on Saturdays after 11 a.m. This offer will be offered until the end of the year.

"Yay, we are so happy and it's returning just in time for small business Saturday," Michelle Shannon, a spokeswoman for the Centers City District said.

Folks can take advantage of free and discounted parking while taking in all the sights, sounds and food Philly has to offer.

"Shop, dine and have a great time," she said.

The PPA said all other parking violations will be enforced, including safety violations and time limits on residential blocks.

There will also be eight dollar parking at select lots on Saturday and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. through New Years Day.
