PPA: Hundreds Of Tickets Issued During Snow Emergency
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Parking Authority and police ticketed and towed hundreds of cars parked illegally during the snow emergency this weekend.
Now the city has a message -- next time, move your car.
"We don't want to tow you, we want you to cooperate," says Vince Finnerty -- director of the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
His agency worked with Philadelphia police to clear cars from the 50 snow emergency routes throughout the city. He says they wrote more than 700 tickets for snow route parking, and police say they relocated more than 200 cars to non-emergency routes,
That's too many, according to Finnerty:
"The deterrent isn't working as well as it should be."
The deterrent is a $51 parking ticket -- and $76 towing fee.
Greg Damis says he parked on South Broad Street three hours before the snow emergency ended on Sunday:
"About 11 p.m. I looked out the window, my car was gone," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Damis called 215-686-SNOW to locate his ride parked four blocks away.
"They were very efficient and friendly about it."
It'll cost him about $127, but he'll think twice before he parks next time, even after the storm.
