Post Sandy, Workers Down The Shore Ramp Up Rebuilding Efforts Before Summer Begins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A year-and-a-half after Superstorm Sandy hit, a lot of builders down the shore are ramping up their efforts before the start of the summer.
Rehabbing, tearing down, rebuilding, it's the post-Sandy world. Homeowners and construction companies are dealing with a lot of moving parts, changes in FEMA flood maps for example.
"We are doing a lot of work behind the scenes in preparation for construction. Once construction breaks it's a much faster delivery."
Builder Dwight Pittinger, based in Monmouth County, has been running his family business for decades. He says a lot of his work involves lifting homes to handle flooding now but certain standards set pre-Sandy are speeding up because of the damage the Superstorm caused.
"If you live near the water, at least within a mile of the ocean, you have to have windows that can absorb an impact. If you have high winds coming off the ocean, debris in the air."
He says they'll mostly be working in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and he expects the bulk of their construction to take place in June and July.
