PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A portion of I-95 northbound in Philadelphia was closed for about an hour as police investigated a shooting on the roadway on Wednesday night. Two people were injured in the shooting that stemmed from a fight, police say.

Video from Chopper 3 showed officers out on foot on the roadway around 11 a.m., scouring for evidence.

Pennsylvania State Police said Thursday afternoon that the incident is not considered road rage since both parties knew each other. According to authorities, a fight led up to the shooting.

"We're not considering it a road rage incident. A road rage would be you get involve with some sort of altercation you know.  We feel these two parties knew each other," said Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Joseph Altieri.

It's not yet known what the fight was about.

Two people were shot and hospitalized following the incident that happened on I-95 northbound, near Allegheny Avenue, Wednesday night. Police say a 25-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man showed up at Episcopal Hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs.

They told officers they were on I-95 northbound, near Allegheny Avenue, when a dark-colored SUV pulled up next to them and someone opened fire. There were several bullet holes on the driver's side door of the vehicle.

"It's not a random act of violence. This is two parties we feel knew each other or had some sort of interaction prior to this incident," said Altieri.

The woman who was behind the wheel then drove to the hospital.

"We know that vehicle has five bullet holes on the driver side. Four of the bullets struck the driver door, one went through the driver side rear door and there is blood inside the vehicle," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The two victims were later taken to Temple Hospital where they were listed in stable condition.

Police say a third person was in the car that was shot. That person left Episcopal Hospital with the shot-up car but was later pulled over near Kensington and Lehigh.

Police are still trying to figure out if the shooting really happened along I-95 or possibly somewhere else. Police also have not yet named a suspect. Anyone with information is urged to call Pennsylvania State Police.
