Police Warn Residents Of Scam Claiming $3.9 Million Winnings

By Chelsea Lacey-Mabe

CAPE MAY, N.J. (CBS) -- Middle Township police are telling Cape May residents to be on the lookout for a scam that may be in their mailbox.

At least one resident has reported finding a solicitation proclaiming they won $3.9 million. All they had to do was send in a check for $20.

The disclaimer on the back of the flyer however says there's only a one in three million chance of winning the money and a one in one chance of winning just $1.

Police advise against giving out personal information to a stranger and if something sounds too good to be true it could be a scam.

Residents that are unsure about a piece of mail or phone call they receive are urged to call police.
