Police Warn Of Door-To-Door Scam In Haverford Township

By Suzanne Monaghan

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ. (CBS) -- Police in one Delaware County neighborhood are warning nearby residents about a suspicious woman who claims to be soliciting door-to-door for donations to a community center.

The woman has been going to homes in the Llanerch section of Haverford Township, asking for money or Halloween costumes for the Upper Darby Multicultural Center.

There's one hitch. The multicultural center doesn't solicit door-to-door for donations.

Police say they've received several reports since Sunday, and in one case the woman went inside a home and stole an iPhone.

Authorities want residents of to lock their doors and ask any solicitor to show a valid permit.

Extra patrols are canvassing the neighborhood and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
