Police: Suspect Stashed Collection Of Stolen Jewelry In Rectum Following Car Crash

HEIDELBERG TWP, Pa. (CBS) – Police in York County made an "unusual" find after an 18-year-old crashed his car in Heidelberg Township last month.

On Dec. 1, 2013, police say Christopher Scheller was traveling east on Old Hanover Road when he lost control of his vehicle near Pine Drive and struck a tree.

An officer who responded to the crash summoned medical personnel for non-life threatening injuries and also found evidence that the driver was intoxicated.

When medical staff x-rayed Scheller, they found "an abnormality" inside his rectum.

Police say Scheller at first did not want the items removed, but he eventually consented.

The procedure yielded a veritable treasure trove: medical staff removed a bag of synthetic marijuana, a socket for a wrench used for smoking, four bracelets, four necklaces and 11 ladies rings inside the suspect's rectum.

The jewelry was eventually discovered to have been stolen by Scheller from a home in Heidelberg Township. Scheller apparently panicked and stashed it inside him when he saw police approaching him following the accident.

He is now facing charges of Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, DUI and related charges.
