Police Standoff Leads To Murder Investigation In West Philly

By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- What started as a barricade situation involving SWAT teams in West Philadelphia Wednesday morning has become a homicide investigation.

Neighbors called police around 4 a.m. after hearing gun shots from a home on North Edgewood Street.

Once on scene, police saw a man looking out of a window who refused to answer the door leading to SWAT teams setting up a perimeter outside.

After entering the home, Chief Inspector Scott Small says officers found a 25-year-old man who had been shot to death in a front room.

"SWAT continued to clear the property, and on the second floor in a rear room, hiding, they found a 23-year-old male. This male was not injured, however he was hiding from police."

Small says that man was taken into custody for questioning, and that the investigation is ongoing.
