Police: Speeding Pickup Truck Driver Crashes Into Gas Pumps In South Jersey

BROOKLAWN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a speeding pickup truck driver crashed into some gas pumps in southern New Jersey, sparking a small fire.

The driver was seriously injured in the crash, which culminated an incident that started around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say a Collingswood police officer saw the truck traveling at more than 100 mph on Route 130. The officer tried to catch up to the truck but soon saw the vehicle had crashed at a gas station in nearby Brooklawn.

Authorities say it appears the driver lost control of the truck while traveling through a traffic circle. The truck then hit the gas pumps, sparking a small fire that was quickly extinguished by police and firefighters.

The driver was hospitalized in critical condition.

The accident remains under investigation.
