Police Shoot Driver After He Tries To Run Over Officer In Wissinoming

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A suspect is in custody after being shot by police during a traffic stop in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened around 10:00 p.m. Sunday near Tulip and Benner Streets in the Wissinoming section of the city.

Police say officers had just pulled over a car when the driver of that vehicle attempted to run over an officer.

Police opened fire on the vehicle, striking the driver inside.

Authorities say the man got out of the car, and then fled to nearby Vandike Street where he was apprehended and taken to the hospital.

No officers were injured in the incident.
