Police Seeking Citizens Bank Robbery Suspect

by Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The FBI and Philadelphia police are seeking a man who fled empty-handed after trying to rob a credit union branch and then successfully robbed a bank some 25 minutes later.

Authorities say it happened Monday afternoon when the suspect walked into the Police and Fire Federal Credit Union branch at 901 Arch Street and handed the teller a note demanding cash.

But they say the man ran out of the building without getting any cash.

At about 2:45 p.m., investigators say the same man walked into the Citizens Bank branch at 1201 Spring Garden Street and handed the teller a similar note.

This time, authorities say, the teller turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect and he ran out of the bank.

Anyone with information is urged to call the FBI at 215-418-4000 or the Philadelphia Police Department.

A reward is being offered and tipsters can remain anonymous.
