PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Investigators say a student is facing charges after he brought a gun into a high school in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday.

The incident happened at Samuel Fels High School on Langdon Street in the city's Summerdale section.

The school was placed on lockdown after a student showed a cell phone picture of a gun inside the school to an administrator.

"It was terrifying just thinking there was somebody loose inside the school," says student Brian King.

Officers and the SWAT Team arrived at the school and began searching the school as part of the investigation.

After searching the school for several hours, police say an unloaded silver revolver was found in a trash can in the school's weight room.

Investigators say an 18-year-old student at the school has been arrested and charged with bringing the gun into the school.

"Northeast Detectives is doing an investigation. They're reviewing video of each entrance and exit," PPD Chief Inspector Dennis Wilson tells Eyewitness News.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Police are investigating a possible metal detector malfunction.

"How does a gun get inside a school when they got metal detectors?" asked parent Kadira Coleman.

The lockdown at the school was lifted at about 1:30 p.m. and parents were able to pick up their kids.

School officials said there was another lockdown at the school Monday after a report of a weapon on campus, but that turned out to be false.

The incident remains under investigation.
