Police: Roxborough Barricade Ends; Shelter-In-Place Order Lifted

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police say a gunman is dead and a shelter-in-place order has been lifted after a barricade situation in Roxborough.

Police say they responded to the unit block of River Road around 5:30 a.m. Saturday for reports of gunfire.

Authorities say a 64-year-old man barricaded himself inside his home and was firing at police.

It's not clear how many rounds were fired, but no officers were hit.

Residents in the neighborhood were ordered to stay inside their homes as a safety precaution.

The standoff lasted for nearly five hours before police say the man turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

There were no injuries to civilians.

The man reportedly had 29 guns registered in his name.

SEPTA service, including the Manayunk-Norristown Regional Rail, had been suspended in the area throughout the duration of the standoff, but has since resumed.
