Police: Racial Slur, Swastika Etched Into Car In Delaware

By David Spunt

CLAYMONT, Del. (CBS) – New Castle County Police are investigating a hate crime after a Claymont woman told detectives she discovered a swastika and a racial slur scratched into her car.

Detectives told Eyewitness News the vandalism took place early Sunday morning on Denham Drive in Claymont.

"You would think in 2015 we still wouldn't be going through this," Ameerah Green told Eyewitness News.

Green, a mother of six, says the repairs will cost at least $1,000, but she's more concerned with the symbolism behind the vandalism.

"I'm truly disgusted," she said.

Green noticed five flower pots were stolen Sunday morning when she went outside. She checked her property and noticed the scratches on her car. Her husband's car was also vandalized.

"It hurts because we get along with everybody in the neighborhood," Bryant Green said.

Detectives say the crime carries a felony charge. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
