Police: Officer Fired Gun To Stop Vehicle From Hitting Partner

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police in Philadelphia are investigating after an officer fired his weapon.  Officials say it happened a short while ago when a vehicle was stopped at 4800 D Street.  Authorities say when the officers got out of their cruiser, the driver put his vehicle in reverse and hit the gas, heading toward one of the officers in an attempt to hit him.  His partner discharged his weapon and was able to stop the suspect from hitting them.  There were no injuries to either officer or the suspect.  Police say three apprehensions were made. One suspect had to be tased and was taken to Episcopal Hospital by police.  There's no word yet on why the vehicle was stopped initially and why the suspect fled police.
